About the Meat Information Service (SIC)--History: The conviction that it was necessary to create a beef Information Service in Brazil stems from a visit in 1999 to the CIV (the French Meat Information Center) in Paris. The CIV is an information center on French meat, which since 1987 has been a mediator between the professionals in the sector, public bodies, and consumers.
In September 2001, a meeting was held in Sao Paulo, attended by different leaders from the Brazilian livestock farming sector, especially national beef cattle breeding associations. This meeting was overseen by the Brazilian Rural Marketing Association (ABMR), the Nelore Breeders Association of Brazil (ACNB), and by the Sao Paulo State Livestock Farming Development Fund (FUNDEPEC).
