Officials from both Russia and the US remain confident that a deal can be struck later this year to permit Russia's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), despite the two sides' failure to reach agreement at the G8 Summit in St Petersburg last weekend (see A2216, 14.7.06, N/2).

While progress was made on several problems like industrial tariffs and intellectual property rights, a dispute over US meat exports to Russia prevented a final deal, reports AgraFood East Europe.
