Doctors, community leaders and concerned citizens crammed into the Earlton area June 16 to carry out their protest of a proposed soil and solid waste incinerator plant in Kirkland Lake. An estimated 300 vehicles from a number of Highway 11 communities converged on Earlton to hear speeches from the Public Concern Timiskaming citizens group, the Aboriginal community and Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay in railing against Bennett Environmental Inc.
and the Ministry of Environment. They want an independent review of the health and safety issues concerning Bennett's thermal oxidizing facility in St. Ambroise, Que., in the Saguenay region. Ramsay suggested a petition of 10,000 signatures be gathered in the coming weeks to influence the ministry's environmental...
