Northern Ontario Business, February, 2006

The University of Michigan website that "sniffs out value and then rolls in it" is devoted to finding low-cost, high-potential stocks. The methodology used to select the stocks on the site is based on the research of University of Chicago professor Joseph Piotroski, who says anyone can examine financial statements from a group of companies, apply a nine-question test and come up with the stock-value winners.

His tests found stocks that returned an average of 23 per cent annually over two decades.
