Legal Publisher, December, 2007

In January, Springer (New York) will release "Autonomy in the Law," a new book that examines the fundamental purpose of law through discussions of how European and American lawyers, judges and citizens do and should apply legal autonomy to the practical circumstances of litigation, legislation and the law.

The volume compares and contrasts European and American conceptions of autonomy in the law of families, capital punishment, assisted suicide and criminal trials, and identifies common values "that justify all legal systems," Springer said. It also covers autonomy of defense and defense counsel, as well as checks and balances in the law of international organizations. The nw book costs $75.
