In fact, Verizon is in the process of converting its network from copper to fiber-optic cable nationwide. The effort will take years and cost billions, but when it's complete, Verizon customers will have access to fiber-optic broadband with virtually no physical limitations to the traffic that connection can handle.
"The fiber being installed today should have the capacity to handle anything that becomes available in the next 20 to 30 years," predicts Cliff Yezefski of Verizon's FTTP (Fiber to the Premises) national planning team.
