Hijacked future

Alternatives Journal, August, 2009 by Taarini Chopra

Hijacked Future, David Springbett [DVD]. It's not just climate change or the rising price of oil that threaten our food supply. It is also those who want to control and own global seed stocks. With this as its underlying message, Hijacked Future is an engaging and accessible introduction to the complex web of current food issues.

This short documentary features leading thinkers, activists and farmers from around the world, primarily Canada and Ethiopia, whose collective experiences highlight the dangers of a profit-driven food system that is monopolized by a few powerful players. The film ends with a nod to agricultural innovation and a call for larger-scale citizen-based resistance.
