Spanish telecoms and media group Telefonica is to add significant production capacity to its European media assets after agreeing to buy Netherlands-based Endemol in $5.3bn all-share deal. Telefonica says Endemol--one of Europe's largest independent production companies--will supply content for its broadcast, Internet and third-generation mobile outlets across Europe and Latin America. Following completion of the buy, Endemol will keep its name and operate as a separate division within Telefonica Group (Spain; 34/1/353-4100; www.telefonica.es).
