Set-top box battle intensifies in US.(Brief Article)

Screen Digest, November, 2001

Competition between manufacturers vying to supply US cable operators with digital set-top boxes is intensifying. Having recently had its 500 series box approved by Time Warner Cable (TWC), UK manufacturer Pace is looking to close in on its target of 10 per cent share of US market. In six months to May 2002, Pace expects to ship 0.5m boxes into US. Based on single-chip architecture, Pace (UK; 44/1274 532 000; www.motorola.com) signed a five-year technology licensing contract with ReplayTV in May 2001 (see 2001/138b3).
