Mobile operator launches European Wi-Fi.(New Products & Services)

Mobile telecommunication operator O2 has announced plans to launch wireless LAN (wLAN, aka WiFi) network in UK--to be followed by German and other European territories--to complement existing GPRS network. UK customers will get access to 1,000 wLAN sites across Europe. Offering in Germany will include both pre-paid and post-paid pricing packages. O2 will also increase number of access points from 30 to over 100. O2 will focus wLAN access on key locations such as airports, hotels and conference centres and main train stations. Target audience is business travellers and commuters. O2 will be partnering third-party site owners and wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) to avoid infrastructure set-up costs.
