Woolworths Group has added Total Home Entertainment (THE), the UKs third largest video wholesaler, to its retail and home entertainment group. Woolworths' subsidiary Entertainment UK (EUK), the UK's largest video wholesaler, will assume responsibility for the 20m [pounds sterling] ($36.6m) acquisition. However, THE's brand identity and infrastructure are to remain unchanged through the remainder of 2006.
Woolworths Group's interim results for the 26 weeks ended 29 July 2006 showed 2entertain third-party sales up 12 per cent and EUK third-party sales up 9.9 per cent like-for-like, despite poor performance from the group's highstreet chain. According to Woolworths, like-for-like sales declined by 8.3 per cent overall.
