California cookbooks always are big, bold and beautiful, or so it would seem.
Two recent Northern California, wine-oriented editions that fit the mold are "Annie and Margrit: Recipes and Stories From the Robert Mondavi Kitchen" by Annie Roberts, Margrit Biever Mondavi and Victoria Wise (Ten Speed Press, $35), and "Sonoma: A Food and Wine Lover's Journey," by Jennifer Barry and Robert Holmes (Ten Speed Press, $40).
Annie Roberts is the executive chef at the Robert Mondavi Winery in the Napa Valley. She also is the Swiss-born daughter of Margrit Biever Mondavi, who married the winery's namesake in 1980. Victoria Wise is a chef and a prolific cookbook author. Together they have crafted an attractive volume.
