The search for the most thorough and least intrusive identity platform will lead lots of firms that play in the ID space to go on the lookout themselves-for acquisitions and partnerships. The ID-management space was buzzed last month by EMC's announcement of its $2.1 billion acquisition of RSA Security.

EMC chairman Joe Tucci said the deal was an attempt to marry data management with diligent oversight of access to sensitive data-two areas he said go hand in hand.
