Web site could offer cost-saving opportunities for employers

The close of 2004 saw the introduction of a new tool regarding the pharmaceutical industry: the Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs Web site. Although the site is directed at consumers of prescription medications, it will have a much broader impact, as doctors, pharmacists, PBMs and drug manufacturers will surely feel its influence. Employers, too, will most certainly be affected - and, depending on their actions, could utilize this tool to bring about some critical changes to the industry.
As it does with other products reviewed in Consumer Reports, Consumers Union, the magazine's publisher and the organization behind the site, will compare prescription drugs by presenting information on their effectiveness, safety and cost. Each month the Web site will add another category;...
