CU PACs Poised To Play Key Role In Fall Political Races

Credit unions have quietly accumulated almost $1 million in cash to be used to help influence this fall's pivotal congressional elections, when a single House or Senate race could determine control of either.

The vast majority of those funds, almost $750,000, have been saved by CUNA and its state leagues with an eye towards leveraging campaign contributions with the volunteer manpower of credit unions to help tilt a variety of key races one way or another. "As we get into the August (congressional) recess and into September all things turn political," said Richard Gose, political director for CUNA.
