Fed Gets Private Insurance Primer

ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU was scheduled to have its annual meeting with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors last Friday, and planned to present a special report on private deposit insurance.

The trade group said the Fed has expressed interest in private insurance, provided to credit unions primarily by Dublin, Ohio-based American Share Insurance.

Federal charters cannot opt out of National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund coverage, but can offer excess deposit coverage from American Share Insurance.

NAFCU said its analysis looked at private insurance from an historical perspective and did not offer any opinions on the matter.
