Democrats Reorganize Congressional Leadership

The newly crowned Democratic leaders of the House and Senate were busily reorganizing each chamber of Congress last week in preparation for the 110th Congress, as they returned for a brief lame-duck session to complete unfinished work of the 109th Congress. From a credit union perspective, the most important move was probably the appointment of Connecticut Sen.

Chris Dodd as new chairman of that body's Banking Committee. Dodd, who has been a nominal supporter of credit unions over the years, is widely expected to undertake an agenda driven by consumer issues he has pursued recently-some of which may not please the credit union lobby. They include the issue of credit card disclosures and fees, interchange fees on cards transactions and a reduction in the allowable hold time...
