BOOZER, Melvin
BOOZER, Melvin (b. 1945; d. 6 March 1987), activist.
Melvin Boozer grew up and spent most of his life in Washington, D.C. The second oldest of three siblings, he was raised by his mother and stepfather. After graduating from Dunbar High School in 1963, he went to Dartmouth College on a scholarship. His social consciousness was awakened there and he became politically active, especially in the antiwar movement. After graduating with a sociology degree in 1967, Boozer spent several years in Brazil working for the Peace Corps. While there, he began to act on the homosexual desires of which he had been aware since childhood.
