Did Fattah announcement violate school rules?

Did U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah ignore Philadelphia School District rules by holding his mayoral announcement on Saturday outside the High School of the Future? Well, maybe. The district and the Fattah campaign clashed yesterday over whether Fattah had been permitted to announce outside the school, at Girard and Parkside avenues.

District spokeswoman Amy Guerin said: "The School District staff received a call from the [Fattah] campaign office a few weeks ago, and we advised them that school buildings and school property could not be used for campaign announcements." But Fattah spokesman Solomon Jones said the campaign was told only that it couldn't use the school building. "They checked with the legal department and said we could use the outside," said Jones, who would not say with whom the campaign had spoken.
