THE CREW FROM GOO is down in the Pentagon basement cooking up another sticky mess for us. It will be released over the president's signature this week and will explain, among other things, why the new set of commanders in Iraq will be better than the ones the leader of the free world just fired. I know.

Folks like us, unsophisticated in the vagaries of combating insurgencies, will think, "If firing the old generals will turn this thing around, we should have done it a couple thousand corpses ago." But it's not that simple, the guys from GOO will tell us: "What you've got to understand is that there is a multiplicity of factors to be weighed and a broad array of constituencies to be accommodated." Or: "If you were equipped with even a rudimentary grasp of the complex...
