Paterno trying familiar faces in unfamiliar places

STATE COLLEGE - Spring football is a time for experimentation, and Penn State's most notable early test-tube subjects are defensive back Tony Davis and All-America linebacker Dan Connor.

Davis, a starter at cornerback as a sophomore last season, has been moved to safety, creating an opening at corner for highly touted sophomore A.J. Wallace. Connor, who had been starting at the "Fritz," or weakside linebacker, is getting a look at middle linebacker, with Tyrell Sales running with the first team at Connor's old spot.

The moves figure to stick, but on the first day of practice Friday, coach Joe Paterno stressed that no final decisions had been made.
