Patience is Fitzpatrick's virtue

It's not often that a guy gets a contract in the NHL because he is known to be patient when he is not in the lineup.
But that appears to be the case with Rory Fitzpatrick. Released from Flyers camp a week before it ended, the free-agent defenseman was signed to a contract last week and then placed in the seventh defenseman role.
"I'll take any role they give me, and if that is my role then I'll be ready," Fitzpatrick said yesterday. "I've had that role in the past and I'm pretty comfortable whether I'm playing or just waiting to get in. I know how to stay in shape and be ready when they ask me to play."
He will not be in the lineup when the Flyers face the Atlanta Thrashers tonight in the Wachovia Center. And getting in a game might take a while for Fitzpatrick,...
