In retrospect, the gesture could have been a disaster.
The basketball coaches at Loyola University Chicago this past weekend took a prime recruit to dinner in a swanky restaurant on the 95th floor of the Hancock Center.
"I'm not a big fan of heights,'' Courtney Stanley said. "Being way up there . . . Looking down at Lake Michigan . . . I was sitting right by the window. Made me nervous. At least the glass was thick.''
By the end of the visit, so was the bond.
Stanley, a 6-1 senior point guard at Roman Catholic High, has made an oral commitment to LUC. He also was receiving strong interest from Robert Morris, Wright State and Quinnipiac and had been scheduled to visit the latter this coming weekend.
