Flyers unable to land more help at NHL trade deadline

Like several other general managers in the NHL, Paul Holmgren wanted to land one of the top players available on the trading block this year.
The Flyers could have used a defenseman like Tampa Bay's Dan Boyle or Buffalo's Brian Campbell. But Boyle was kept off the market Monday when the Lightning signed him to a 6-year deal.
That left Campbell, who was told he had played his last game as a Sabre in the Flyers' 4-3 shootout win in Buffalo Monday night.
The Flyers certainly were interested and called to find out what it would take to obtain Campbell. But the Flyers didn't like the answer - part with young talent like Jeff Carter or swap top draft picks for players they weren't sure they could re-sign at the end of the season.
