Esteban "Shortie" Meletiche, a 5-11, 160-pound senior from Frankford High, is our Player of the Year in connection with the 31st annual Daily News All-City Baseball Team.
What'd he do? What didn't he do?
Meletiche, the leadoff batter, merely collected 46 hits in 75 at-bats ( no strikeouts) for a .613 average in leading the Pioneers (20-2 overall) to a second consecutive Public League championship. He added 14 doubles, six triples and one homer in addition to notching 21 RBI, stealing 20 bases and scoring 43 runs.
The nimble Meletiche also played the heck out of shortstop and shared franchise-pitcher honors with junior righthander Edwin "Tito" Rohena, who also earned first-team All-City acclaim (as an...
