That awesome pronouncement, imparted to me by a seasoned world voyager (and buttressed, naturally, with persuasive examples), is typical of the wit and wisdom in the air at a gathering of a hundred other highly experienced low-budget travelers in an austere Quaker meeting hall in central London.
