All Hail theSkyscraper

Since 1890, 14 buildings have held the title of World's Tallest-and 8 of them were in lower Manhattan. So it's only fitting that one of the area's newest tall buildings, the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park, should host the Skyscraper Museum. There are exhibits on towers around the world, as well as a look into the ever-changing shape (and height) of the city's skyline-from the Empire State Building's construction documents to one of the World Trade Center's viscoelastic dampers. The museum is also responsible for the text on the informative plaques at nearby Ground Zero, where this summer Freedom Tower workers will start reaching for the sky once again. $5, 212/968-1961, www.skyscraper.org.
