1. Pack dye-trapping laundry sheets, which can be found where you buy detergent. The sheets trap residual dye from colored clothes so that they don't bleed color in the wash, which means you don't have to do multiple loads while vacationing. 2. An important tip for cruising in winter: Fly into the port a day or two before your ship is scheduled to depart. We booked a Costa Rican cruise but were caught at JFK, where all flights were canceled. Itineraries that include stops on islands with airports can allow people to catch up.
