Russia strikes at Yukos again

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russian prosecutors launched another raid against the oil giant Yukos while a case against one of its fallen billionaire shareholders was sent to court in a further blow to the floundering company.
Authorities also broadened one of the charges in their criminal case against the company's jailed former chief executive Mikhail Khodorkovsky that now makes his defense more complicated still.
The series of events led senior liberal Anatoly Chubais to declare that he now seriously feared for the state of property rights in Russia -- an ominous warning less than two weeks before crucial parliamentary elections.
The latest dramatic events in yet another Russian political saga unfolded when prosecutors announced that on Wednesday they had broken into and searched the premises of Yukos's main subsidiary, Yukos-Moskva, based in Moscow.
