BELFAST (AFP) — A moderate party and analysts in Northern Ireland warned voters that failing to cast their ballots in the forthcoming election for a new provincial assembly could benefit hardliners and imperil the province's hard-won peace.

The fresh concern about extremist paramilitaries launching attacks on election day followed the partial detonation of a bomb on Monday night at an army base in in the western town of Dungannon.
