Brain tumour rules Burns out of 2004 championship

LONDON (AFP) — Briton Richard Burns will miss next season's world rally championship as he receives radiation therapy on a brain tumour.

The 2001 champion fainted at the wheel of his Porsche driving to Cardiff for this month's season-ending Rally of Great Britain and a brain scan has revealed he is suffering from an Astrocytoma.

Confirming the news on his official website the Subaru driver said: "The doctors have advised that I am unable to get back in a rally car for the 2004 FIA WRC Championship and I have to accept that.

"I'm obviously extremely disappointed but I am feeling very positive and I am determined to focus all of my efforts on getting back to full fitness as soon as I can."
