Diamondbacks land slugger in nine-man swap

PHOENIX, United States (AFP) — Three days after dealing star pitcher Curt Schilling to the Boston Red Sox, the Arizona Diamondbacks obtained slugger Richie Sexson in a nine-man Major League Baseball trade with Milwaukee.
The Diamondbacks also acquired lefthander Shane Nance and an undecided minor leaguer, but the key player was first baseman Sexson, who matched a career high in 2003 with 45 home runs, two behind National League leader Jim Thome.
Arizona sent the Brewers second baseman Junior Spivey, first baseman Lyle Overbay, versatile infielder Craig Counsell, lefthander Chris Capuano and righthander Jorge de la Rosa, who was acquired in the Schilling deal.
