Coalition removes first of Saddam's four infamous heads atop Baghdad palace

BAGHDAD (AFP) — Seeking to erase more memories of their once powerful foe, the US-led coalition removed one of the four three-story-high bronze busts of deposed tyrant Saddam Hussein that adorned his presidential palace, now the living quarters of US overseer Paul Bremer.
Iraqis, US soldiers and coalition personnel cheered when a giant crane lowered the seven-tonne head that portrays a stern-looking Saddam dressed as a helmeted Muslim fighter.
"I've been looking at them for six months, so I am delighted to see them coming down," said Bremer, also attending the first head's removal.
"These statues stood as a reminder of the megalomania of the former dictator. We're sick of them," he said.
"The time has come for these heads to roll."
