Lazio bounce back to edge closer to quarter-finals

ROME (AFP) — Lazio put their recent poor league form behind them to close in on a place in the quarter- finals of the Italian Cup.
A 2-0 win over Modena in the first leg of their second round tie puts Roberto Mancini's men on the brink of the last eight and banished the memory of their embarrassing 3-0 league defeat at Siena on Saturday - their fourth loss in Serie A after 11 matches played.
Simone Inzaghi gave the visitors a 42nd minute lead, cleverly springing the offside trap and cutting in from the right before stroking the ball home.
And the recently recalled Italy international turned provider for Lazio's second goal, heading into the path of striker partner Roberto Muzzi whose rising half-volley gave Modena goalkeeper Adriano Zancope no chance.
