Ferguson defends League Cup tactics as gamble on youth fails

LONDON (AFP) — Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is refusing to apologise for fielding a team packed full of youngsters in the League Cup defeat by first division West Bromwich Albion.
It was the first time United had lost to non-Premiership opposition in a domestic competition for six years.
But Ferguson made it clear he would not reverse his long-established policy of using the tournament to give young or fringe players the chance of a first-team run out.
