European stocks fall in wake of Wall Street

LONDON (AFP) — European stock markets started the week on a negative note as the fallout from losses on US indexes was compounded by a sharp drop in Japanese shares on fears about the soaring yen.
The British FTSE 100 index fell 0.35 percent to 4,351.6 points, the German DAX 30 index lost 1.09 percent to 3,799.8 points and the French CAC 40 was 0.81 percent lower at 3,429.2 points.
The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of leading euro-zone shares was 0.58 percent lower at 2,579.9 points.
The euro stood at 1.2181 dollars.
With trade minimal, the prevailing sentiment had been set by Friday's dealings in New York, where worse-than-expected data for non-farm payrolls sent markets down.
