UT Starcom signs deals with Yahoo Japan, China Telecom

SHANGHAI (AFP) — US telecom equipment maker UT Starcom Inc said it has signed two separate deals worth a total of 63 million dollars with Yahoo Japan and China Telecom.

UT Starcom will supply Internet networking equipment worth 40 million dollars to Yahoo Japan, a company statement said Thursday.

Its equipment will support Yahoo Japan's new Yahoo BB high-speed Internet services, which are expected to be launched in Japan at the end of January.

"Subscriber demand in Japan for high-value services continues to drive the need for increased broadband speeds and bandwidth," said Masahiko Yabuki, general manager of UT Starcom Japan.
