Chinese worker detained for posting articles, poems on the Internet

BEIJING (AFP) — A Chinese worker has been detained for posting political articles and poems on the Internet, becoming the latest victim of an ongoing crackdown on online dissent, a Hong Kong-based rights group revealed.

Kong Youping, a 48 year-old employee at a factory in northeastern Anshan city, was taken away from his home by five police officers on December 13, the Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said in a statement.

Kong was detained after he had posted five articles and seven poems on an unnamed foreign website, calling for a reassessment of the 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations and an end to official corruption, the center said Saturday.
