LONDON (AFP) — Newcastle United manager Sir Bobby Robson is set to leave a decision on midfielder Kieron Dyer's fitness for Saturday's FA Cup tie away to Premiership rivals Southampton until the last minute.

England international Dyer, who has been suffering with a stomach problem, missed Newcastle's recent league matches against Leicester and Blackburn.

In his absence Newcastle managed just one point from those games, the team criticised by United chairman Freddy Shepherd for under-performing.

But former England manager Robson held out hope Friday that Dyer, back in training Tuesday, could return for this weekend's tricky-looking third round tie.
