Dean to get "praise" from former US president Carter

DES MOINES, United States (AFP) — Former US president Jimmy Carter will publicly "praise" Democratic frontrunner Howard Dean in his bid for the party's nomination in the November 2 presidential election, Dean's campaign manager said.

Carter will make his statement Sunday in his home state of Georgia, where he will meet with Dean, Joe Trippi told reporters here late Wednesday, noting that a "formal endorsement" was not anticipated.

However, the scheduled public appearance of the two men, side by side, on the eve of the first Democratic caucus in Iowa, could give Dean's campaign a boost to distance him from his immediate rival, US Representative Dick Gephardt.
