Israeli high court to hold hearing on legality of West Bank barrier

JERUSALEM (AFP) — An Israeli high court will hold a hearing on the legality of a controversial West Bank security barrier, ahead of next month's hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), court sources said.

The High Court of Justice was petitioned by an Israeli rights group, the Center for the Defense of the Individual, which argues the barrier is illegal because it strays over the 1967 Green Line border and into Palestinian land, they said.

The high court is expected to discuss the petition before February 15, a week before the ICJ hearing in The Hague.

Israeli media noted that the high court hearing would give Israel the chance to hold a "dress rehearsal" for the ICJ hearing.
