Kerry renews Democratic presidential race; Bush readies rally

MANCHESTER, United States (AFP) — Fresh from altering the Democratic Party presidential nomination battle, John Kerry launched a quest for votes in New Hampshire as President George W. Bush readied his own offensive.

The Massachusetts senator came from behind Monday to win the Iowa caucuses, the first test of the Democratic Party's presidential nomination season. Senator John Edwards was second and the favorite, Howard Dean, came in third.

The Iowa test was seen as vote for moderation, after months of Dean's attacks on Bush and other Democratic candidates.

Kerry's victory had an immediate impact in New Hampshire, where a new opinion poll showed he was closing in on Dean, the outspoken former governor of neighboring Vermont state.
