HANOI (AFP) — Around 1,200 buffalos, cows and pigs have been infected with foot and mouth disease in Vietnam's central province of Quang Nam, state media said.
Provincial government head Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the disease had been detected in 26 communes following an initial outbreak in December last year.
As a result Quang Nam authorities have imposed a ban on the trade, transport and slaughter of buffalos, cows and pigs in the province in order to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease, the Thanh Nien reported.
The daily said livestock in neighbouring Quang Ngai had also been infected. Authorities in both provinces could not be contacted for comment
