Ethics Commission puts London World Cup triathlon in doubt

PARIS (AFP) — London's hopes of holding a World Cup triathlon event before the IOC decides on the host for the 2012 Olympics appear to have been dashed by the IOC's ethics commission.

International Triathlon Union (ITU) president Les McDonald was keen to have a World Cup meeting in the British capital and the London 2012 bid leaders supported the idea.

McDonald recently met London bid leader Barbara Cassani to discuss the idea.

But the ethics commission has written to McDonald saying such an event had to be submitted to them for their approval. The letter was copied to all nine cities bidding for the 2012 Games - London, Paris, Istanbul, New York, Rio, Moscow, Madrid, Havana and Leipzig.
