Monaco fall flat in Burgundy to uncork French title race

PARIS (AFP) — Monaco were brought back to earth with a bump after a scoreless draw at Auxerre left Didier Deschamps' Principality side barely hanging on to the lead in the French league.

Monaco, who along with Lyon qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League in midweek and are set to play Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, played out an entertaining draw with Guy Roux's Burgundy side in which both teams missed chances to take the lead.

Earlier in the day the fortunes of Marseille caretaker coach Jose Anigo looked on the ascendancy after a 4-0 drubbing of ten-man Strasbourg only days after their impressive 1-1 UEFA Cup draw with Liverpool.

However Monaco's failure to stretch their lead at Auxerre now means they have only a two-point lead over...
