MANAMA (AFP) — A Maltese-flagged oil tanker carrying an estimated 80,000 tons of oil collided with another vessel off the coast of Oman leaving one crew member missing and causing a fire and a light oil spill, an official said.
The tanker, called "Everton" and carrying a 45-member multi-national crew, collided with what was believed to be a Korean-flagged fishing boat, Captain Abdul Munim Janahi, the head of the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC) told AFP.
One crew member from the tanker is still reported missing but a fire and oil spill as a result of the collision are now under control, he added.
The fishing boat, named "Chunying", fled the scene and is being pursued by the coastguard, Janahi said.
