US envoys set for meetings with Israeli and Palestinian premiers

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Three senior US envoys were due to hold separate meetings with Israeli premier Ariel Sharon and his Palestinian counterpart Ahmed Qorei as part of efforts to revive the moribund peace process.
Assistant Secretary of State William Burns, deputy national security adviser Stephen Hadley and National Security Council Middle East affairs head Elliot Abrams flew into Israel late Wednesday, US diplomatic sources said.
They are expected to meet Thursday morning with Sharon's bureau chief Dov Weisglass and his national security advisor Giora Eiland, focussing on the premier's "disengagement plan", which will see most if not all the Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip evacuated.
