ISTANBUL (AFP) — US President George W. Bush praised the Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for his efforts to advance a reunification deal for Cyprus, the Turkish leader's office said in a statement carried by Anatolia news agency.

Bush telephoned Erdogan to express support for Ankara's involvement in four-way peace talks with Greece and the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders, which ended late Wednesday without agreement on a UN blueprint to unite the rival communities in a loose federal state.
