Teen prodigy Adu makes low-key pro debut

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Teenage phenomenom Freddy Adu made a low-key but victorious debut with his first professional soccer club, D.C. United.
At 14 years, 10 months, Adu has been called the saviour of American soccer but he didn't enter Saturday's game until the 61st minute of a 2-1 United win over San Jose on Saturday.
"This was a great experience," said Adu. "It is something I will remember for a long time."
In the Major League Soccer season opener, Adu touched the ball 10 times but could not muster a shot on goal.
In fact, old hand Jaime Moreno seemed to steal the show with a goal and assist to lead United over the defending champion Earthquakes.
Adu replaced Alecko Eskandarian, entering to a standing ovation from the crowd of 24,603 at RFK Stadium.
