Yahoo Japan's full year net profit doubles on strong ad sales

TOKYO, (AFP) — Yahoo Japan, the nation's top Internet portal and online auctioneer, full year net profit doubled to a record 24.8 billion yen (230 million dollars) thanks to strong advertising sales.

Its recurring profit in the year ended March 2004 jumped 75.6 percent to a record 41.3 billion yen with sales up 28.2 percent on year to 75.8 billion yen, also a record, Yahoo Japan Corp. said in a statement.

"Our profits surged due to robust advertising sales," a company spokesman said, adding revenue from advertising rose 63.6 percent to 22.2 billion yen during the period.

For the three months to June, the company forecast a net profit of between 6.85 billion yen and 7.75 billion yen with a recurring profit expected to be in the range of 11.4 billion yen to...
